Review:
This is both an amazing course and an amazing professor. The class, although mine had 50 kids in it, is basically a discussion led by Steve, with occasional activities, videos, speakers, etc. to spice it up. It?s not really a history of education at all, more a history of class and race issues in American Education focusing on Boston public schools and the busing crisis. While I (PS major) am potentially interested in teaching, this class is great because anyone who went to high school can relate to it, and that?s all of us. Forces you to think truly critically about tough issues. I think Steve is a hilarious, intelligent, approachable guy, with a bit of a liberal bias being his only drawback (like so many tufts profs.) But he is not arrogant at all, so I would still recommend this class to students across the spectrum.

Workload:
Pretty light workload. You read a few books (all of which I enjoyed and found thought provoking) and write a midterm paper. You also have a bunch of journal assignments. No tests. No final. There's a big challenging final project which you do in a group, but although it is time consuming, it was a very satisfying activity that tied together the course materials.
