Tufts University: Edith Balbach - Community Health - Professor ratings, reviews and much more | JumboAccess
Edith Balbach | CH001 - Intro to Community Health | Community Health2005-12-22

Review:
Professor Balbach was the best professor I have had so far at Tufts. I am not a Community Health major, but I'm very glad I took Intro to CH.

Workload:
There was a fair amount of work, lots of studying required for the midterm and final.

Review:
I took this class a year ago, but I just wanted to re-affirm would these students have been writing - this was my favorite course at Tufts and that's mostly due to Professor Balbach. I cannot recommend this course enough .

Workload:
A decent amount of reading, but not too much and it's worth it. Tests are fair and the paper assignment isn't too hard. Take this course!

Edith Balbach | CH001 - Intro to Community Health | Community Health2005-12-20

Review:
Professor Balbach is an amazing lecturer and this class was one of my favorites! It's extremely interesting and she always kept my attention. I would even miss the days when guest lecturers would speak. This class is definitely worth taking even if you're not interested in majoring in community health, even though a lot of people come out of it wanting to.

Workload:
There was an average amount of reading. Some weeks were heavier than others and it was good to look ahead. If you keep up with them the class is great, and even if you get behind it will still make sense. There were two papers, a midterm, and a final, all of which were fair. You really need to know the readings for the exams.

Take this class. She is a great professor, lectures are a blast! The work load isn't too bad just be aware of the key point that she makes in class and you should do fine.

Edith Balbach | CH001 - Intro to Community Health | Community Health2005-03-22

Review:
Probably the most interesting class I have taken so far at Tufts. I had no clue what Community Health is before taking this class and now, after taking the class, I'm majoring in Community Health. Everyone should take this class.

Workload:
Readings for every class but not too much reading. A research paper that takes a fair amount of time, but not hard. Midterm and final, which aren't that bad at all. The most annoying part of the class is the mandatory recitations.

Edith Balbach | CH001 - Intro to Community Health | Community Health2004-12-23

Review:
Prof Balbach is great she really explains the info. The course is interesting.

The TA's that assisted her (F'04) need to come down from their high horses. They tended to flaunt their power when grading papers.

Workload:
The weekly work load is typical-reading. The course consists of two papers and two exams.
Note: Do not focus on previous exams the use of them is misleading.

Edith Balbach | CH001 - Intro to Community Health | Community Health2004-07-11

Review:
This is one of the best classes I have taken at Tufts. The course is very interesting and is a good mix of lecture, interaction, and independent projects. The TAs can be a little boring, but Professor Balbach is one of the most engaging and interesting lecturers I have ever had. She manages to joke around and meet students interests without becoming too cutesy and intellectually vapid. Exams aren't that easy, and you have to do a major paper and group investigation of a community organization, as well as some smaller essays. Overall though, most people enjoy the class immensely.
