Tufts University: CHNS001 - ELEMENTARY CHINESE - Chinese - Professor ratings, reviews and much more | JumboAccess
Lanlan Sheng | CHNS001 - ELEMENTARY CHINESE | Chinese2006-01-26

Review:
She is very nice and flexible, but she does not help students to work on pronunciation enough, and she does not reinforce the information well. However, she was helpful at teaching the class how to write the characters. I would not take another class with her, especially since her classes are at 8:05am.

Workload:
I personally had some trouble keeping up with the workload because one workbook lesson can take several hours to complete. However, the assignments and tests are fairly straightforward.

Zhiqiang Li | CHNS001 - ELEMENTARY CHINESE | Chinese2005-11-06

Review:
Professor Zhiqiang Li makes sure that students understand the grammar, pronounce the correct tones, and participate in class all the time. He enjoys teaching, makes himself available, and jokes with the students.

Workload:
Assignments include listening, reading and writing exercises from the workbook and preview sheets for each lesson. For one lesson they can take up an hour or so, not including the hanzi sheet (character pratice). Listening to the online audioclips are necessary for class preparation and correct pronunciation.

Mingquan Wang | CHNS001 - ELEMENTARY CHINESE | Chinese2005-04-12

Review:
Very good professor. He is kind, helpful, patient and good-humored. He is always willing to answer questions and see students after class. He is also a very available teacher. Clear and fair, he can also be very lenient.

Workload:
Chinese 1 is rather easy as long as you learn the characters. For a language class the work load isn't very large. A test every 5 chapters which really serve as a review for you. Also short straightforward homework assignments for every chapter, but they are not graded. It's for your own good really.

Just don't leave learning the characters till the day of the test.

Zhiqiang Li | CHNS001 - ELEMENTARY CHINESE | Chinese2005-01-23

Review:
It?s true, li laoshi is an amazing professor that cares a great deal not only about the Chinese language, but also about each student in his classes. Energetic and encouraging, Chinese is not an easy language but li laoshi makes it fun and interesting.

Workload:
A good deal of the work is independent, like getting the homework done on time, listening to dialogues, and memorizing all the vocab/characters before a test, but nothing unmanageable.

Zhiqiang Li | CHNS001 - ELEMENTARY CHINESE | Chinese2004-12-09

Review:
Li Laoshi is amazing! He's concerned with his students' progress, enthusiastic about teaching, and makes learning Chinese a fun and rewarding experience. I would definitely recommend him to anyone who wants to start learning Chinese. Exams were straightforward and fair, and all work came back promptly.

Workload:
Not much, just make sure to listen to the audio tapes if you want to stay in shape for dialogues during class.
