Patricia DiSilvio | ITAL022 - Composition and Conversation II | Italian2004-04-24

Review:
Although Professor DiSilvio is very excited about Italian and literature and is always available to help struggling students, she is not the best Italian professor I have encountered at Tufts. She does not understand students' essays and writings in exams easily, in other words, DO not try to make a metaphor in your assignment, stick to the point and use simple grammar constructions. Meeting with her to discuss my compositions, she is very encouraging, but I have not done any better on my essays by heeding her advice.

Workload:
The class itself is intensely boring. We read one novel over the entire semester which is definitely a manageable amount of work, except for the additional hand-out reading assignment, two grammar exercises and a composition (or film, or rewrite, etc) due on the same day. It is unfortunate that this class is required to complete the major or minor because it is neither engaging nor very helpful in terms of mastering the Italian language. Those who do well do well, those who don't....end up with a B. So it could be worse.
