Tufts University: Sheryl Read - Entrepreneurial Leadership - Professor ratings, reviews and much more | JumboAccess
Sheryl Read | ELS101 - ENTREPRENEURSHIP & BUSIN | Entrepreneurial Leadership2006-05-14

Review:
Sheryl is phenomenal. She challenges her students to think outside the box, and she DOESN'T strictly stick to the text. Her interesting and challenging assignments, like making her students give a 3 minute speech about themselves, pushes each of her students to succeed and grow as a person.

Workload:
Assignments were straightforward. One business case study per week plus group work. More than some ELS classes, but not as much as ELS 107.

Sheryl Read | ELS101 - ENTREPRENEURSHIP & BUSIN | Entrepreneurial Leadership2006-05-11

Review:
I have taken all of the Entrepreneurial Leadership classes at Tufts, including Business Law and Accounting and the only professor I liked less than Sheryl Read was Jeremy Halpern (ELS 107). Professor Read means well, she is enthusiastic about the class, and she is a very nice lady. I agree with all of these things from the one review that is already posted here. But I just don't think that Sheryl Read has many worthwhile things to say outside of talking about the material from the book. The class's saving grace is that it involves the presentation of business plans at the end of the semester, but it is much to formulaic otherwise, relying heavily on a text which is just not very good. Having said all of this, this is not a bad class, you can learn something if you are brand new to the idea of entrepreneurship and you don't know what a venture capitalist is. And you should probably start with this class if you are interested in the Entrepreneurial Leadership program at Tufts. My advice, however, would be to take the class with whoever else is teaching it.

Workload:
Work in the class is made up of readings from the text, which are discussed in class, and for which you are required to write small summaries/analyses. The business plan is a maor component of what you do and there is also a short exercise in public speaking and a paper that requires you to interview an entrepreneur.

Sheryl Read | ELS101 - ENTREPRENEURSHIP & BUSIN | Entrepreneurial Leadership2005-12-02

Review:
Prof Read makes this class great. She is very down to earth, and excited to teach the course. She gives lots of real world knowledge from her past experiences. She has lots of connections and has people come in as guest speakers nearly every week. One of the best teachers I've had at Tufts. If you take ELS 101 take it with her, you'll get a lot of practical knowledge.

Workload:
Case study every week, which was reading from the book and writing a couple pages. She expects people to contribute in class, but doesn't put people on the spot. The large part of the grade is a group project for the end of the semester, where you make a business plan. Other than that, a 3 minute presentation about anything, just to practice giving a speech, and an interview of an entrepreneur.
