Tufts University: Joanne Phillips - Classics - Professor ratings, reviews and much more | JumboAccess
Review:
This really is a great class, but do not take it unless you a seriously willing to work very hard. It is well-known to be a very difficult class. That being said, it you are interested in the topic, it's really worth it. It's a great accomplishment to be invited into the seminar in the spring semester. The professor is very knowledgeable, kind, and willing to spend her time helping you.
Workload:
I would strongly recommend taking at least one lower level classics/history courses before taking this class. You need to learn how to do exam involving IDs, essays, etc. You must memorize everything on the outlines she gives you. There a ton of required reading. Many articles are on reserve at the library. There are two exams. But note that the midterm is administered in two parts. This means that you will have one 2 hour exam one week, and a week later, take another 2-hour exam. Both of these grades = your midterm. There is a major paper which is 50% of your final.
