Tufts University: Regina Merzlak - Latin - Professor ratings, reviews and much more | JumboAccess
Review: In my opinion Merzlak is an awful teacher. There is a reason why she hates having graduate students in classes... because they know more about the material than she does. I didn't learn anything from taking this course because of her. If you have a lot of background in Latin and considering majoring or minoring in the subject, then I would strongly consider asking permission to take a 100 level course in place of any course with this professor. I have no idea why she is still allowed to teach courses at Tufts. My only explanation is that the other professors, which in my experience are all awesome, don't want to teach the courses that she has to teach being only a lecturer.
Workload: She is very easy. However, she can be unfair for instance she did not give anyone an A in the course when I took it, which is absurd considering the ability of many of the students in the course!

Review: Every class was Prof. Merzlak read aloud to us the text which we were reading, in a very monotone voice. She gave some commentary on the text which was often anecdotes from her live which were hardly entertaining, or a few actual notes on the text. Overall, a boring but easy class, as long as you attend.
Workload: Although, there is required reading, you never have to prepare for a class unless there is a test or "round-table discussion." The tests entail identifying passages from the several texts that we have read in the past few weeks. She is very specific in the information that the questions ask. For instance, for lyric poems she asks for the number of the poem, and the volume in which the poem can be found.
