Tufts University: Xueping Zhong - Chinese - Professor ratings, reviews and much more | JumboAccess
Review:
This was a typical film course at Tufts, as far as structure. Professor Zhong is enthusiastic about the films, and while her biases might show sometimes, there was always lively conversation and she seemed interested in hearing students' opinions. She challenged the class to do more than just say they liked or disliked the films, and lead the class to think in filmic terms that perhaps most of the class was unfamiliar with prior to the class.
Workload:
Class was what you make of it. Readings were helpful but unneccessary most of the time. There were weekly reflections and a couple 8 page papers, one midterm quiz (easy because covered specified material), and then a take-home final. Overall very manageable workload, and while class sometimes dragged on because the non-screening class is also nearly three hours (I took a few 10 minute "just can't keep my eyes open" naps) I felt bad about that because Prof. Zhong is great. I recommend the course if you are looking to get your feet wet either in film analysis OR Chinese history.
