Tufts University: Barbara Grossman - Drama - Professor ratings, reviews and much more | JumboAccess
Review:
This class gives you an overview of the history of theater from after Shakespeare through the late 19th Century. Every class there is a lecture about the period given by the professor. The plays are often extremely long and boring. You will learn a great deal about the theater of England, Italy and France, but not many other countries. The Professor is concerned about your desire to learn and leaves much of the class open for discussion.
Workload:
There is one midterm exam, two theater critiques and a final project for this class. Every week there are at least two plays that can be 100+ pages in length PLUS occasional readings from the textbook and information packets about the specific period. You don't have to read everything in this class to do well, but if you truly want to be enlightened about the theater, I recommend reading all of the information packets and selectively read the most famous plays.
