Tufts University: Xueping Zhong - Chinese - Professor ratings, reviews and much more | JumboAccess
Review:
Simply put, the professor is excellent - she knows possibly everything that there is to know about the subject, and then some. She is always available outside of class if you have a question.
Workload:
The amount of reading assigned was fairly heavy. The novels and stories assigned were light easy reads. However, she does like to assign critical essays a bit - which assumes that the reader has a pretty strong background in literary theory. They're not fun - at all.
In terms of the papers, the topics are pretty straightforward, she usually give out 3 topics, with questions to guide the structure of the essay. And if none of them strike your fancy, you can always pick your own. She is a very critical grader - when it comes to ideas. Be very careful about your points - make sure that you can back them up and that they actually make sense. Having said that, she is a really fair grader. And if she sees a problem, will not hesitate to write long comments.
