Tufts University: GER002 - Elementary German I - German - Professor ratings, reviews and much more | JumboAccess
Elisabeth Rettelbach | GER002 - Elementary German I | German2006-04-04

Review:
Elisabeth is absolutely wonderful. She explains the material very well, so that it is very easy to understand and she makes sure that the students understand everything fully before moving on. Her notes are very easy to follow, her lectures are very organized, and we're always laughing about one thing or another in her class. Learning a new language can be challenging, but Elisabeth makes it fun and comfortable to learn - it's a fun class to take and I highly recommend taking it with Elisabeth :)

Workload:
QUIA, the online workbook - it depends on how much is assigned, but these really help in learning the language and especially helpful before exams. Short exercises from the textbook and an exam after every chapter - once every two weeks - but there is no final.

Kai Herklotz | GER002 - Elementary German I | German2006-04-02

Review:
Kai Herklotz is a great professor. He's a native speaker, so his knowledge of German is obviously very solid and he can give a native speaker's perspective on what sounds good or doesn't. He's a really friendly, funny guy, and very enthusiastic about teaching German.

Workload:
There is homework every day, usually a couple of exercises out of the book, which he probably won't check in class, and some online exercises. The online exercises are checked the day before the test, so you can do them whenever you want, as long as it's in by the deadline. The tests aren't bad at all. If you're good at languages it should be a breeze; if not, it could be tough, but still easier than most other languages.

Saskia Stoessel | GER002 - Elementary German I | German2005-04-14

Review:
Frau Stoessel is a fantastic professor. She is enthusiastic and incredibly helpful. She is always willing to meet after class, and doesn't hesitate to give an extension if you have a valid reason. I took the intensive 1/2 (2 semesters in one), but I honestly looked forward going to class everyday. If you have the chance to have a class with her, do it.

Workload:
Workload is normal for a beginning language course, definitely not too difficult.

Manuela Wagner | GER002 - Elementary German I | German2004-07-11

Review:
I have to agree with the first two posts. Manuela is by far the best teacher I have had at Tufts. She is very nice and genuinely concerned with how well every student in the class understands the information.

Workload:
The work load is very consistent. You can almost predict when tests are coming and what they are going to be on. There are tons of little assignments, none of them big enough to really stress someone out and because there are so many, if you mess up on one it doesn't really worth that much. So you end up doing a lot of work without realizing it.

Manuela Wagner | GER002 - Elementary German I | German2004-04-11

Review:
Manuela is by far the best teacher I?ve had here at Tufts. She works with every student and is always willing to go over grammar again and again with you until you understand. She always willing to give you extra time and help in writing essay and tests. Great teacher. Even when I speak French in class she laughs and answers back to me.

Workload:
Not much but sometimes can be intense. She's always willing to give a little leeway with deadlines. Her office hours are whenever you need help.

Manuela Wagner | GER002 - Elementary German I | German2004-04-11

Review:
Manuela is the best. She's really nice and funny and students can relate to her and easily chill and chat with her.

The classes are small and she's really good at giving individual attention and help when you need it.

Workload:
There's a test about every two weeks but most of them aren't that bad. And she's really good at preparing you for them. Homework is usually one or two exercises, but not bad.
