Tufts University: Saskia Stoessel - German - Professor ratings, reviews and much more | JumboAccess
Saskia Stoessel | GER012 - Intensive Elementary German I | German2005-11-09

Review:
Many students see that this class is two semesters of german in one and that it is at 830 and 930 in the morning and run away. THEY SHOULD NOT DO THIS. While it is quite early and can be challenging this is a wonderful class and Frau Stoessel is incredible. Really if you can do about 30 minutes of studying a night the tests won?t be too hard. They are fairly mindless and if you can remember the basic rules you should do fine. Granted if you slack off and fall behind you may have a problem but even if that happens Frau Stoessel will always help you.

Workload:
The workload is actually reasonable. Usually only about 20 minutes of homework a night (although it is every night) and a test every Monday (but they really aren't that bad). Compared to a lot of other courses, this one's workload is rather light.

Saskia Stoessel | GER012 - Intensive Elementary German I | German2005-06-13

Review:
Frau Stoessel is the ideal teacher for an intensive German course. No question the course can be challenging. It is easy at the beginning and many students are lazy and once you fall behind it is very hard to catch up. But if you do fall behind, Stoessel will do everything possible to help you. She will always let you come by her office and talk German. She is understanding and if things are just too overwhelming she will give extensions and work with you to make things bearable. The class was difficult and early (830 or 9 30) but Frau Stoessel always had a smile on her face and genuinely seems to care about her students. She is a wonderful woman and it is very hard to find anything bad to say about her.

Workload:
It is a fair amount of work. Many students seem to not work for several days and then are just overwhelmed during the tests. If you can do about 30 minutes of studying a night the class is perfectly fine. If you wait til the day before to go over the vocab and the articles you are going to have very bad nights but if you study a little at a time it's not too bad at all. Quia is annoying as sin though but luckily it?s only a small part of your grade and can remind you to study things you wouldn't otherwise think ok. An overall good way to get out of two semesters worth of languages in one semester without it being totally unbearable.

Saskia Stoessel | GER012 - Intensive Elementary German I | German2005-04-27

Review:
Frau Stoessel is a superb professor. She is genuinely concerned with how you do in class, and is always available if you need help. She is extremely fair, and very understanding when life gets particularly stressful. She is one of the best language teachers I have ever had.

Workload:
I took the intensive course, so it was a lot of work. However, it was all helpful and not unexpected for an intensive intro language course. The only downside is the new electronic workbook, which is extremely tedious and unhelpful. However, that does not contribute to your grade too much.

Saskia Stoessel | GER002 - Elementary German I | German2005-04-14

Review:
Frau Stoessel is a fantastic professor. She is enthusiastic and incredibly helpful. She is always willing to meet after class, and doesn't hesitate to give an extension if you have a valid reason. I took the intensive 1/2 (2 semesters in one), but I honestly looked forward going to class everyday. If you have the chance to have a class with her, do it.

Workload:
Workload is normal for a beginning language course, definitely not too difficult.

Saskia Stoessel | GER021 - GRAMMAR/REVIEW/COMPOSITION | German2004-12-25

Review:
Saskia is a good German professor. She teaches grammar especially well compared to the other foreign language prof's I've had.

Workload:
The workload wasn't too heavy. This class should fit into a 5 class schedule without killing you with work. 5 tests, 3 compositions and 2 oral presentations. Small homework?s due almost every class.
