Tufts University: Donald Wertlieb - Child Development - Professor ratings, reviews and much more | JumboAccess
Donald Wertlieb | CD193 - PEDIATRIC PSYCHOLOGY | Child Development2006-03-27

Review:
One of the best courses I've taken at Tufts, with one of the best professors at Tufts. I'd recommend this course to anyone in any major who is interested in children. Professor Wertlieb is extremely knowledgeable and presents the information in ways other than just lecturing (small group discussion, guest speakers, movies). Wertlieb is very accessible to discuss student progress or answer any questions. The small class size, interesting course material, engaging projects, and professor enthusiasm make this an excellent course.

Workload:
There is a lot of reading, usually 3-4 substantial articles assigned for every class. For the most part the readings are interesting and enjoyable, but its really important to keep up because Wertlieb loves participation. Hes also a pretty picky paper grader, so make sure youre familiar with APA format.

Donald Wertlieb | CD193 - PEDIATRIC PSYCHOLOGY | Child Development2006-03-27

Review:
Overall a good course, workload seems like a lot at first, but not too bad. Need to be very careful with details for written assignments. Prof is concerned with student progress/helpful, lots of class involvement, would definitely take another class with same professor. Very interesting guest speakers.

Workload:
Definitely need to do most-all of the reading. Prof tries to give choice where possible, he is very picky about bibliography/formatting issues.

Donald Wertlieb | CD193 - PEDIATRIC PSYCHOLOGY | Child Development2004-12-22

Review:
Professor Wertlieb knows his stuff and is very enthusiastic and personally involved in the material that is taught in Pediatric Psychology. Class involvement is encouraged because the course is taught in a discussion/seminar style. I learned a lot, more than in other classes because there was a lot of interesting readings as well as class discussion, lecture, and a unique and very important part of the class - Task Forces. Each task force is made up of 2-5 students who have chosen a topic of their interest. They then do group and individual research on that topic and later present it to the class in a half-hour presentation as well as a paper. Task Forces give you a chance to delve deeper into a subject of your choice, for example, Child Life, Teenage Pregnancy, Childhood Cancer, etc. Wertlieb and the TA were both very responsive and easy to get a hold of, both through email and office hours.

Workload:
Pediatric Psych has a lot of reading, in a course reader from Gnoman, as well as 2 textbooks, online material and "recommended readings" that you could find in the library. It is important to stay up to date with readings because class participation is expected and greatly appreciated. Wertlieb LOVES when you participate.
