Tufts University: Eva Hoffman - History of Art - Professor ratings, reviews and much more | JumboAccess
Eva Hoffman | FAH101 - FAH 001 Art Ritual and Culture | History of Art2006-01-03

Review:
Professor Hoffman teaches many of the lectures, but other professors from the Art History department will sometimes do a few on their field of expertise, since the course is very comprehensive and covers a very broad range of topics. My favorite part of the class was probably recitation, because I had a really good TA and I enjoyed the discussion more than sitting in lecture.

Workload:
At times there is a good amount of reading assigned, but it's not necessary to do it all if you show up to lecture. There is a good amount of memorization required, as far as pieces and dates go, but nothing too over the top. Two four page papers, but I think they are graded specifically for content and not grammar or structure.

Eva Hoffman | FAH021 - Early Islamic Art | History of Art2005-11-04

Review:
Thought not always the most riveting and dynamic lecturer, Hoffman is obviously knowledgeable and presented clearly the main themes and movements in Islamic Art. She was always willing to listen to students' ideas, even when they deviated greatly (in my opinion) from the content of the course. I would certainly take another class with Professor Hoffman.

Workload:
Quite manageable. There's reading every week, but it prepares you for the lectures, so close attention in class often does the trick. You have to study for the mid-term and the final, but they're not very difficult if you prepare. Only one paper, and it was short, on a piece observed in the single museum visitation...I don't know what the other student who reviewed this class is talking about.

Eva Hoffman | FAH021 - Early Islamic Art | History of Art2005-04-20

Review:
Eva Hoffman is one of the most demanding and boring professors I have had. She makes interesting topics very dull and has so many expectations that the course was so overwhelming and not fun to take at all. I felt she is not very articulate in class and stumbles over her words all the time. I would not recommend this class!

Workload:
A lot of reading and responses on BlackBoard, a midterm and final, and a lot of extra lectures and museum visits.
