Tufts University: Hillary Crane - Anthropology - Professor ratings, reviews and much more | JumboAccess
Review:
At the beginning of each semester Professor Crane takes pictures of each student in the class and will know who you are within a few days. If you don't show up to class she probably will realize it. She is an extremely boring lecturer and is on a power trip. I loved this subject when I took it in high school but now I never want to take another anthropology class because of her. The two TA's -- Astrid and Dan are very nice and helpful however.
Workload:
Crane assigned a ton of reading. The readings were usually interesting but there is hardly time to do all of it. There are about 2 or 3 books that we have to finish on top of the reading from the text book. There is a large paper due at the end of the semester where you have to read two ethnographies and write 6-8 pages comparing them. This would be fine and normal for any class, except we have to read an entire separate book two weeks before the assignment is due, and make a kinship chart (which takes time) one week before the paper is due, on top of other reading. I would not recommend that anyone take this class unless they love endless amounts of work.
