Prof. Rice was a great professor; she is very organized and prepared for class which moves smoothly and follows a logical flow. Her style is light and informal and she is very enthusiastic. She is very helpful and obliging for out of class help. I would most certainly recommend her to anyone, and I hope to take a class with her again!
Workload:
The workload is sometimes alittle heavy, but you always know what will be graded so you can pick and choose what you need to do. Exams and papers are graded very fairly and they reflect exactly what was taught in class.

Prof. Pauling was incredibly enthusiastic about the course material. We covered a tremendous amount of grammar very quickly, as it was assumed that you already knew it and it was just review. He also offered many grammar based explanations that allowed students to fully grasp concepts. I understand the grammar rules much more clearly after having taken this course, and have also enriched my knowledge of French literature and culture. Truly an excellent course.
Workload:
There was a lot of homework, and he collects and corrects all the assignments. While this was very tedious, it did help me to improve in french. The reading takes a while, as it needs to be done carefully in order to be able to answer the questions.

She's very affable and always willing to help. Can be a bit tough on grading some times, and the required films can get annoying because you have to make time for them. But as a professor, she's very good.
Workload:
Workload could be a bit intense, but luckily she tells you in advance what's being collected, so not everything is mandatory. Be prepared for in-class discussions on the films and readings!

Rice is very nice and encourages conversation without being intimidating. She's enthusiastic and I'd definitely take her again.
Workload:
You watch 6 movies throughout the course, which class discussion generally revolves around. You have to make the time, but they're good movies. Four compositions throughout the semester; grading is kind of tough on those.

Although she doesn't speak English very well, she was always very nice and willing to explain things. She is an easy grader, and the tests/quizzes are as simple as you can get. No tricks.
Workload:
A couple of workbook exercises a night and a composition every month. She prefers simple and correct instead of trying new vocab/taking a risk. Play it safe. Pretty basic. Easy grader.

I find that last comment hard to believe.. I have taken French 21 with her and I found her to be one of the better French professors at Tufts. She is very encouraging, great at explaining things. I mastered a lot of grammar I was previously having trouble with..and I really enjoyed her class.

In my view, the Professor was very un-professional in her manner of holding class. Singled out students for lack of ability in certain areas, and humiliated them. I actually considered going to the dean on several occasions. I dropped the course after a very short while, since I could not put up with the teacher anymore.
