Tufts University: FR191E - French Cinema and Society - French - Professor ratings, reviews and much more | JumboAccessReview:
This course was extremely interesting and caused me to think about movies in a completely new way. I really enjoyed the selection of films and discussing them afterwards. Prof. Lane used to be involved in the theater and (obviously) is a cinephile so she is really knowledgeable about performing arts and has even met a couple of the famous directors whose films we saw! Also, her lectures are very well organized. The class is 3 hours but part of the time is watching movies so it's not bad at all. Perfect for IR TC5 credit and also perfect if you are going to France to study abroad.
Workload:
There is not a lot of work and the class is not hard, but it is time consuming because you have to watch 1 movie outside of class every week. There is a midterm paper of around 7 pages and a final of between 12-15 pages and both are, of course, written in French. Prof. Lane is happy to work with you on the papers outside of class. There are weekly handouts but they are mostly optional and not important.
