Tufts University: PSY055 - Human Sexual Behavior - Psychology - Professor ratings, reviews and much more | JumboAccess
Mitchel Rose | PSY055 - Human Sexual Behavior | Psychology2006-04-04

Review:
Quite frankly, he makes sex sound so boring and it's hard to stay awake in his class. His lectures are okay, but he rarely goes over the assigned readings (the readings are amazing) and goes off on tangents. However, he is a great professor, tries very hard to make class interesting, is readily available outside of class, and eagerly answers all questions.

Workload:
The readings, which are the highlight of the course, are chapters from the textbook and are long, but you get more than enough time to finish them. Only two midterms, which are multiple choice exams, and the third is an optional exam you could take if you're not satisfied with your grade.

Review:
Because some past reviews say that he is boring and disorganized, I went to the first class without high expectations. But surprise -- he turned out to be an entertaining, informative, charming person! His interesting stories, imitations, and explanations of pictures made the three-hour lecture tolerable. Just one thing: You must take notes vigorously while he's talking because he doesn't write much on the board.

He is very open to suggestions and questions during lectures. His tests are pretty straightforward - most things are from the book, and some are from the lectures. As long as you keep up with the reading and go to the lectures, you will be fine.

I will definitely take another class with him.

Workload:
Just a lot of textbook reading. Three midterms and one optional final exam.

Review:
Prof. Rose generally gave a good lecture. He tells a lot of interesting stories and neat facts. But he is completely disorganized.

Workload:
The tests he gave us were completely unrelated to both the notes and the readings he assigned. As a result, the tests were very unfair and consistently inaccurate in terms of a student's actual knowledge of the class material.

Joseph Debold | PSY055 - Human Sexual Behavior | Psychology2004-05-12

Review:
Human Sexual Behavior was an enormous class. I think it was considerably more challenging than a lot of us thought it would be -- considering that although most of us are familiar with sex, we don't necessary think of it in physiological terms. Prof DeBold was a great lecturer, took the most unbiased standpoint on issues I've ever seen at Tufts, was great at review sessions, and I'd definitely take another course with him.

Workload:
I felt as though I needed to keep up with readings and attend the lecturers, but outside of that, there was not that much work. There were just 3 multiple choice tests and an optional final. If you do better on the final than the 3 test average, it counts for 50% of your grade. So even if you slacked off all semester, you have the opportunity to make it up.
