Tufts University: Mitchel Rose - Psychology - Professor ratings, reviews and much more | JumboAccess
Mitchel Rose | PSY055 - Human Sexual Behavior | Psychology2006-04-04

Review:
Quite frankly, he makes sex sound so boring and it's hard to stay awake in his class. His lectures are okay, but he rarely goes over the assigned readings (the readings are amazing) and goes off on tangents. However, he is a great professor, tries very hard to make class interesting, is readily available outside of class, and eagerly answers all questions.

Workload:
The readings, which are the highlight of the course, are chapters from the textbook and are long, but you get more than enough time to finish them. Only two midterms, which are multiple choice exams, and the third is an optional exam you could take if you're not satisfied with your grade.

Mitchel Rose | PSY012 - ABNORMAL PSYCHOLOGY | Psychology2006-04-01

Review:
One of the most frustrating courses I have ever taken. It was easy to get a good grade in the class, but only if you were willing to sit through a 3 hours of Prof. Rose rambling and going off on tangents for roughly 20 minutes worth of actual lecture. I was literally ready to scream by the end of class. He means well, but he has no teaching ability what so ever!

Workload:
There were only 3 multiple choice tests and one three page "book report" paper. If you do the reading and are good at B.Sing you can get above a B.

Review:
Because some past reviews say that he is boring and disorganized, I went to the first class without high expectations. But surprise -- he turned out to be an entertaining, informative, charming person! His interesting stories, imitations, and explanations of pictures made the three-hour lecture tolerable. Just one thing: You must take notes vigorously while he's talking because he doesn't write much on the board.

He is very open to suggestions and questions during lectures. His tests are pretty straightforward - most things are from the book, and some are from the lectures. As long as you keep up with the reading and go to the lectures, you will be fine.

I will definitely take another class with him.

Workload:
Just a lot of textbook reading. Three midterms and one optional final exam.

Mitchel Rose | PSY012 - ABNORMAL PSYCHOLOGY | Psychology2005-12-16

Review:
He is extremely enthusiastic and very entertaining - he loves to act out various cases and tell drawn out stories. The lectures are long and sometimes difficult to get through without making a trip to Dunkin' Donuts :-). The tests are fair, although they are taken mostly from the book and do not cover much from the lectures. However, you will learn a lot in this class - it's a great intro to abnormal psych.

Workload:
There is a lot of reading, and you have to do it in order to do well on the tests. Assignments include 3 tests and 1 small paper - not bad at all.

Mitchel Rose | PSY071 - Clinical Methods | Psychology2005-11-30

Review:
Very enthusiastic, facilitates students practice of interview process, anecdotal, invites questions, presents a lot of applied and integrated information without any text book. Worst: professor availability for office hours. Best: Very flexible with extensions and prompt with email/phone communication. I would take another class from him. He's a little scatterbrained, but very nice and has qualified knowledge and experience.

Workload:
Most article readings were very interesting, the books were a little dry and no one read everything.

Review:
This was a 3 hour lecture and he is so boring. Completely boring, and this is abnormal psychology! He just drones on and on. His lectures have no coherence, plus he doesn't know his stuff that well.

Workload:
3 tests
1 paper

Mitchel Rose | PSY012 - ABNORMAL PSYCHOLOGY | Psychology2004-09-03

Review:
Prof. Rose was a real character. His lectures were usually unrelated to the readings, but valuable to hear. He's a clinician and describes case studies during class without really touching on what the assingment was. The book we used was fantastic and the main source of what I learned.

Workload:
His tests were sketch. They were usually very easy, but the questions on them were often poorly worded or related to some obscure comment he made in class that doesn't reflect what you learn. There were just three tests and a 2 page paper on psychology-related novel.

Review:
Prof. Rose generally gave a good lecture. He tells a lot of interesting stories and neat facts. But he is completely disorganized.

Workload:
The tests he gave us were completely unrelated to both the notes and the readings he assigned. As a result, the tests were very unfair and consistently inaccurate in terms of a student's actual knowledge of the class material.

Review:
Professor Mitchell is the most disorganized and scatter brained professor that I have ever come in contact with throughout my academic career. In my opinion, he deserves to be fired!

Mitchel Rose | PSY012 - ABNORMAL PSYCHOLOGY | Psychology2004-05-12

Review:
Although Dr. Rose was very enthusiastic and entertaining, he was also extremely disorganized and his lectures, at times, were entirely different from the readings. I learned mostly from the book, but his tests were fair considering how little time he spent actually teaching. Because of his tendency to scale things and his entertainment value, I would take another class with him.

Workload:
The readings were extensive, but we only had 3 multiple choice tests and one very small paper. If you come to class and look at the material in the back of the chapter, you pretty much know everything you need to know and more!
