Review: One drawback for having Kounaves as a professor is that he assigns little homework, but then administers demanding examinations. He doesn't even write his own tests...he has his graduate students write parts of the test for him. In addition, the laboratory was the heart and soul for this class, from which he was entirely absent. Two labs a week, three hours each, all taught by graduate students. There was no textbook for the labs, only hastily typed lab handouts. These lab handouts were very confusing and neither explained the theory, nor the procedures very well at all. The lab itself was a mess. It was unorganized, we didn't have our own lockers, and all the equipment needed to be cleaned before we began. Having four different graduate students meant that our lab reports were graded by four different standards. We were always guessing what was expected of our lab reports.
Workload: This class is listed as 1.5 credits, but it is really 2.0 credits. Expect to spend a lot of your spare time writing lab reports.
