Tufts University: SPN004 - Intermediate Spanish II - Spanish - Professor ratings, reviews and much more | JumboAccess
Juliana Berte | SPN004 - Intermediate Spanish II | Spanish2006-09-06

Review:
Juliana (as she encourages her students to call her) really cares about student's progress. She's always available for help and is a genuinely sweet lady. Very understanding and accomodating.

Workload:
There was a lot of busy work, but she had to stick with the syllabus so I don't think it could have been avoided. There was not an overwhelming amount of work, and she grades easily on essays which helps boost your grade.

Dana Simpson | SPN004 - Intermediate Spanish II | Spanish2005-12-22

Review:
This course was really a joy to take. Professor Simpson was very concerned with the students' progress, and worked hard to make sure everyone understood the material. The course was conducted entirely in spansh, except for a few times when things needed to be clarified. The tests are challenging, but very fair. Grammar concepts were covered, but not emphasized. The emphasis was on reading and conversation, mostly. I definitely recommend this course and this professor to anyone interested in studying spanish.

Workload:
The workload is what you make it. Ideally, you should be reading the chapter, and preparing before each class. That way you can actively participate.

As far as written assignments, the class is assigned short "Diarios" for each chapter. There are three compositions (about 2 pages long). There are workbook exercises that must be done before each test. There is an Oral Presentation, four exams, and a final exam. There is also a mandatory recitation, but the one I was in did not have any homework assigned.

Review:
Excellent teacher, very helpful and funny in class. Nicest Guy.

Not much work, except for the workbook before each exam.

Ildefonso Manso | SPN004 - Intermediate Spanish II | Spanish2005-12-11

Review:
I think the previous reviewer was amiss. Profesor Ildefonso Manso is an excellent teacher. He is liberal (like everyone else on the Tufts Planet) but this factor should neither detract nor enhance any professor's rating. Ildefonso is worldly, amiable, highly approachable, and accommodating. He is supportive of all of his students, and though I would agree that he is not the best English speaker, he teaches SPANISH, not English. In an upper level Spanish course at a leading university, one should welcome the fact or at least expect the class to be held in Spanish. Regardless, Ildefanso is an excellent teacher.

Workload:
The workload is VERY REASONABLE. The workbook is a drag, but that's just a requisite for the class.

Ildefonso Manso | SPN004 - Intermediate Spanish II | Spanish2005-11-29

Review:
He doesn't speak English very well and it is difficult to communicate with him. He is funny, not because he is witty but because he is awkward. Liberal.

Workload:
All Spanish classes are like this. The workbook assignments are ridiculously long.

Nancy Levy-Konesky | SPN004 - Intermediate Spanish II | Spanish2005-06-05

Review:
Professor Konesky is the best Spanish teacher I have ever had! Her lectures are informative, entertaining and interesting, and are level appropriate yet still challenging. My Spanish skills improved so much after just a few months in her class. She was very helpful and supportive both in and out of class and is certainly someone students get along with.

Workload:
Workload is normal for a language course. Course work consists of daily homework, tests, compositions and an oral presentation. Grading is very fair, and due dates are flexible.

Beatriz Iffland | SPN004 - Intermediate Spanish II | Spanish2004-06-18

Review:
I had Beatriz Iffland for Spanish 4. I don't really remember her, mainly because she isn't an extremely memorable professor. Very average. The workload was pretty heavy (but I think that's true for all foreign language classes) and she was a tough grader. She also had a raspy sort of laugh: "hegh. hegh. hegh" She was available to help in office hours though.
