Tufts University: Aida Belansky - Spanish - Professor ratings, reviews and much more | JumboAccess
Aida Belansky | SPN003 - Intermediate Spanish I | Spanish2006-01-02

Review:
I wasn't planning on writing a review for Prof. Belansky, but when I read that many people disliked her as a teacher, I felt it necessary to write a review in praise of her. Everyone seems to agree that she is a very very nice woman who cares about your progress, and this is entirely true. As a lecturer, I felt that she did her job quite adequately. Because spanish 3 is essentially a review of spanish 2, it is not easy for a teacher to make the course extraordinarily interesting. That said, if one attends class and studies the book before tests (no need to do the daily assignments), he/she will do just fine.

Workload:
Very minimal work, just study before the test and be good at improvising answers to daily assignments...

Review:
She's not a great professor but not as bad as other reviews make her seem. She's very nice and helpful to students but doesn't teach that much material. It isn't really her fault, though, as the class covers only a few basic elements of Spanish grammar and absolutely no vocabulary. It definitely isn't hard to get a good grade in her class, but others will probably prepare you better for higher levels of Spanish.

Workload:
Pretty easy, she assigns homework every night but doesn't check so it's effectively optional. Only a few papers and projects which she grades very easily. Tests are straightforward, nothing particularly difficult.

Review:
Belansky is a really sweet woman, but she doesn?t lecture. Class is completely partner-based activates that are boring and unhelpful. I think the problem is that stupid textbook they insist on using, but what are really needed are lectures. She's very willing to help outside of class, but I won't take Spanish next semester because of the consistently bad Spanish teachers here at Tufts.

Workload:
Unfortunately, there are assignments due every day and a few group projects and essays due throughout the semester. There's a quiz about once a week and three tests. I found the tests and the essays to be graded strictly and struggled. Not an easy way to fulfill your Spanish requirement.

Review:
I would never take a class with Belansky again. Yes, she is relatively concerned about her students' progress, but she is one of the worst Spanish teachers I have ever had. She simply cannot get the point across and 90% of the people in the class are more confused after she tries to give us a lecture. When we get confused, she gives some excuse saying "I'm just an actress..." Not really sure why she's here then. She seems to be a tough grader, not something you want when you're just trying to get a Spanish requirement out of the way...

Workload:
Homework/short reading or studying for every class and quizzes about once a week.
