Tufts University: SPN022 - Composition and Conversation II - Spanish - Professor ratings, reviews and much more | JumboAccess
James Watson | SPN022 - Composition and Conversation II | Spanish2008-01-03

Review:
He was enthusiastic about the class and easy to seek out in office hours but definitely pegged students as A,B, or C students in the first two days of class. class participation is huge- again in the first few weeks you should make a name for yourself.

Workload:
More than spanish 21. compositions, exams, homeworks.... just keep up with assignments right as they're assigned or you'll get behind

Anne de Laire Mulgrew | SPN022 - Composition and Conversation II | Spanish2006-08-18

Review:
This class was by far the worst language course I have ever taken in my life, partially due to the course material that in no way influenced or improved my knowledge of the Spanish language. The professor was also responsible, as it is evident how unremarkable she finds the Spanish language to be. If you want a Spanish teacher who finds French to be a far more sophisticated and worthwhile language, Mulgrew is the professor for you. She plays favorites, grades as though her students are Spanish natives, and conducts her class in a dull, sloppy manner.

Workload:
Workload was above average; expect to spend hours studying for impossible grammer quizzes. She grades ridiculously harsh on essay portions of exams; expect points off for her biased views on style and perspective rather than hard grammer errors and structure.

James Watson | SPN022 - Composition and Conversation II | Spanish2005-12-25

Review:
If at all possible, try to take Spanish 22 with another professor. If you are one of the unfortunate few who end up with Watson as your professor, get on his good side and participate. He's a nice guy, but he is a strong believer in favoritism, and if you establish yourself as somebody who is simply looking to do the work and take your grade, he'll go harder on you. Along with his terribly humorless jokes and uninteresting demeanor, Professor Watson is a great reason not to take Spanish 22.

Workload:
The workload was managable. You'll have weekly readings, 4 major compositions, a required weekly viewing of a spanish news program, and exams after every 3 or 4 pieces of literature you read. Overall, not bad.

James Watson | SPN022 - Composition and Conversation II | Spanish2005-12-09

Review:
Really nice guy, but make sure to get on his good side. He definitely favors the students he likes, but I?d say he liked everyone in the 16 person class except for about 4. He grades your essays more or less on how much he likes you and isn?t a hard test grader.

Workload:
Normal amount of workload, easy to get in B+/A- range even if you're not great at spanish.

Maria Conchita Davis | SPN022 - Composition and Conversation II | Spanish2005-04-25

Review:
Great teacher, so sweet and helpful and...she's a native speaker so you can actually learn how to speak real Spanish. I mean when you hear the accent of most people in the class...it?s a GREAT thing!! I would definitely take another class with her!

Workload:
Not a lot of reading, not a lot of work. 3 exams, 4 compositions, 1 in class composition, 5 news reports and 4 grammar quizzes...it sounds more than what it actually feels like!

Review:
Conchita Davis is a wonderful teacher. She is sweet, attentive, supportive, and friendly. She is incredibly organized, so I always got a lot out of her classes. Also, she is always eager to meet with students outside of class. We had 4 essays to write outside of class, and my writing improved significantly from getting her feedback and making revisions.

Workload:
Definitely not an insane amount of reading. A very comfortable amount was assigned and it was interesting. The assignments were very straightforward. Also, the papers were due every few weeks and we always had at least a week to write them.
