Tufts University: SPN032 - MAIN CURRENT-SPN LIT II - Spanish - Professor ratings, reviews and much more | JumboAccess
Dana Simpson | SPN032 - MAIN CURRENT-SPN LIT II | Spanish2006-04-05

Review:
Lots of romantic era spanish poetry is not really that lively. Dean Simpson relates to the students well and makes the class and the subject matter as fun as possible. He is definitely the most active and basically my favorite teacher after my first year at Tufts. I definitely suggest taking this class with Professor Simpson.

Workload:
Reading consists of a mix of spanish stories and poetry. Sometimes the reading is indeed a little lengthy. Each classmate has to present one author and a few of his works (this is a pretty easy A as long as you prepare). You get the choice of a midterm, which i suggest you choose to take because although it is difficult, he grades it pretty leniently. Essay final at the end, easy if you prepare. There are also a few short essays which he allows for corrections on. Definitely a good overall class experience.

Tamara Marquez-Raffetto | SPN032 - MAIN CURRENT-SPN LIT II | Spanish2006-04-03

Review:
Professor Marquez-Raffetto is literally the best spanish instructor I've ever had. She is very enthusiastic, easily accessible outside of class, concerned about her students' progress, and makes old Spanish authors interesting. She explains the material very well and her lectures are also engaging - I highly recommend her!

Workload:
The workload is moderate - it really depends on the reading - and there are three essays, a midterm, and a final.

Review:
Professor Marquez-Raffetto is the most enthusiastic professor I've ever had. She loves what she teaches and can make old Spanish authors interesting. She is also always willing to help out as much as possible with her students progress and is pretty laid back about due dates.

Workload:
2 exams and 3 short papers. A fair amount of reading but you don't really have to do it all.

Review:
You wanna see a big white guy who speaks perfect Spanish, raps and makes poetry the most interesting class of your semester? Look no further. Dean Simpson is the man and his classes are always interesting ... you may even feel as though you want to do the reading just to participate in class. Weird, I know.

Workload:
The workload was average. 3-4 short papers, a final (no midterm because he's a flexible dude).

Dana Simpson | SPN032 - MAIN CURRENT-SPN LIT II | Spanish2005-06-06

Review:
Dana (Dean) Simpson is the best kept secret at Tufts. If you want to do things like improve your Spanish, learn about Spain, learn why 20th century Spanish poetry is awesome, and maybe even get a cool nickname, it's all there. Not sure how often he'll be teaching this one in the future though.

Workload:
Two tests and a few papers, the last of which is based on a reading of the student's choice. Reading was not necessarily thick in terms of pages, but there is a heavy focus on poetry, which increases the amount of time that should probably be dedicated to each page in order to be prepared for daily discussion.
