Tufts University: Jan Pechenik - Biology - Professor ratings, reviews and much more | JumboAccess
Review: He is awesome. I like his dorky humor. He is very organized. People should definitely take this course. Definitely my favorite course at Tufts so far.
Workload: The work load is heavy but very manageable. Definitely do the extra credit. Pay attention to the questions on his test review sheets. His tests are very straightforward and thorough.

Review: The textbook, written by him, is very concise and straightforward, which is much appreciated. His tests are fair, and his classes are very interesting. During lectures he shows slides and videos of the organisms we are studying and even passes some actual ones around if he has them. He's funny, too!
Workload: This class is lots of memorization. There are frequent reading assignments, but they are not usually that long. He has 4 question reading quizzes, which you know about in advance, that are easy and are just designed to motivate people to keep up with the reading. The tests are thorough, but fair.

Review: The title is not what it seems, more about invertebrate biology. LOTS of memorization, hard, dry and cold. I didn't like his lectures, does not get to the point and reviews things very generally. At one point, when asked a question, he doesn't actually provide an answer, with indications throughout that all is easy and obvious ('but really, it?s in the book so don't ask me')
Disrespectful, doesn't look at you when you talk to him in office hours.
Workload: Insane amounts of reading, you could pass by just reading and not showing up.
Straightforward exams.
Extra credit work worth doing.

Review: He is VERY enthusiastic! He loves what he teaches and has a weird sense of humor. He's very flexible with meeting with students outside of class. You will only enjoy the course if you really get into it. It's not a course where you spend lots of time watching videos and learning about whales, dolphins, etc. You actually have to learn the specifics (i.e. every body part of arthropods and their functions).
Workload: Lots and lots and lots and lots of memorization. If you're not a good memorizer, don?t take this course. It's more memorization than application.
