Tufts University: Michelle Gaudette - Biology - Professor ratings, reviews and much more | JumboAccess
Review: Prof. Gaudette is friendly and supportive, especially in her open office hours, but her lectures aren't nearly as interesting or clear as the animations from the textbook's website.
Workload: Lots, but it's Bio class, so whaddya expect? A good course for those mildly interested in Bio and with no great background in the subject.

Review: I really disliked this professor. She liked to give out assignments and quizzes that showed us just how much smarter she was than her students. She also puts students on the spot. She once gave us an oral pop quiz that we needed to take individually in front of the entire class. The clarity with which she presents class material and her enthusiasm for the course are both mediocre. She gave minimal explanations before each laboratory, and if a student made a mistake (which often occurred due to lack of direction) she would get angry and embarrass that student in front of the class. This professor made class each week very stressful. I would NOT take a class again with this professor.
Workload: The workload was not bad, but because there was very little direction given and the professor expected students to know methods and calculations, homework did often take a long time. Fly lab took a LOT of time and was really gross.

Review: This is probably one of the worst professors I had in all 3 years I was at Tufts. Biology 3 was supposed to be an introductory courses but professor Gaudette makes it a weed out class like Bio 13. If you are not interested in Biology and just want to fulfill a natural science requirement, do not take Bio 3 with professor Gaudette.
Workload: There isn't that much reading but the problem is all her test material comes from other text books, biochem books to be more precise.

Review: I thought this was a horrible class! I thought that it would be an easy class to get a science requirement out of the way...NOT! If you suck at chemistry, do not take this class because she goes very fast over the chem of biological elements. She doesn?t always answer questions clearly. You have to go to every class even though she does not take attendance because she uses examples that are not on the textbook. If I could go back in time, I would not take this class again!!!
Workload: One chapter to read a week, so, not so bad. 1 quiz a week at every recitation, 2 tests and one final. Tests and quizzes are hard and not straightforward at all.

Review: Professor Gaudette was just mediocre. She knew what she was talking about, but wasn't very personable or engaging with the students. The lectures and recitations were important because examples not found in the text were used on quizzes. She uses powerpoint while lecturing, which is good and bad. It makes it easier to follow along, but a bit tricky to take notes since the lecture goes faster and the diagrams used on the powerpoint are frequently not the same diagrams from the text. She does not put the powerpoint lectures on blackboard.
Workload: Quizzes every week in recitation, two tests, and a final. Reading is only from the intro text. The reading seems straightforward, but she never asked matter-of-fact or memorization questions. Pay particular attention to the chemistry of everything. The class was more challenging than I expected because the professor wasn't engaging and tests were difficult.

Review: Professor Gaudette is clearly an expert in her field, and at times can come off as a little intimidating because of this. However, I found that her course was straightforward, her expectations clear and attainable, and the techniques learned very useful. She heavily encourages class participation, which while frightening if you do not know the material, helps in understanding the concepts behind the labs.
Workload: The fly lab was a great deal of work outside the bounds of class, but certainly wasn't over the top, nor too burdensome. Papers and labs were to be expected from a *full credit* lab course, rather than a lab course tacked on to a biology lecture.

Review: This class could be really good however the professor has little tolerance of alternative views. She comes off as really nice at first but is very controlling and likes to put people on the spot. If you like genetics, the course teaches a lot of techniques, but be careful! Always tell the professor what she wants to hear. Never challenge her.
Workload: The fly lab is over the top. Be prepared to spend all your free time smelling fly nap.
