Tufts University: HIST010 - Europe to 1815 - History - Professor ratings, reviews and much more | JumboAccessReview:
Probably the best prepared professor I've had at Tufts. Goes well out of his way during review sessions to accommodate students. Knows his stuff like none other. In my opinion, this is the ideal professor for this sort of course.
Workload:
Obviously a very broad survey. Most students' enrollment in the course is probably perfunctory (at least in an intellectual sense), but this should be expected given the weight of the subject matter.

Very friendly professor. Easy to talk to. Lectures can be very interesting and he clearly cares about what he is teaching. I found him very easy to approach, more so than many of the other professors I have had at Tufts. He will also go out of his way to help you out and really seems to want you to learn to and to well.
Workload:
Decent readings. Weekly essays prepare you well for the exams. Exams are very straight forward, not tricks.

Tufts University: HIST010 - Europe to 1815 - History - Professor ratings, reviews and much more | JumboAccessReview:
Overall a pretty good professor. He basically reads well written for lectures, but he actually looks at them pretty rarely. He seems to know everything related to the lecture off the top of his head. Because of this, his lectures can be enthusiastic, for his personality. He can come off as a little pompous, but he?s actually quite helpful if you approach him. The tests are extremely straightforward, and if you go to the review sessions you will know, almost exactly, what will be on the exams. The only really annoying thing is his exam turnaround time - I had to wait 4 weeks for my first exam grade.
Workload:
Reading can become tedious, but nothing bad at all. Maybe 3-4 hours of weekly reading, at most. The weekly essays for required sections are a little dull, but they force you to review essential material.

I don't think Professor Marcopoulos ever looked up while he was lecturing. He read off some book filled with notes for 50 minutes, and the class spent the entire time trying to keep up with what he was saying. He does not take questions during class to ensure that he gets through the daily lecture. That being said, this class isn't particularly hard. Make sure you go to recitation and make sure you get the work that is assigned finished on time. If you do what they assign and not make it look done hastily, you will do well. Go to the review sessions led by the TA's and ask them about everything. The TA's pretty much end up saying everything that you'll remember. Overall, pretty boring, but if you're looking for a not so challenging A, then this is it.
Workload:
If you did all the assigned reading, it is a lot. If you did what needed to be done for the assigned essays/journal entries, then about 1.5-2 hours of work a week. 1 1-2 page essay per week, 1 midterm, 1 "term" exam, 1 final. 5-6 Journal entries (opinionated history answers) due before the term exam and before the final exam.

Professor Marcopoulos can seem monotonous and boring at times, but you will not find another professor more knowledgeable about their subject matter. Make sure you're in class for a few of his best lectures (Russian Revolution!). Great TA's keep you informed and answer all your questions in mandatory section.
Workload:
One 1-2 page paper a week based on the lectures for that week. 25ish pages of reading per class. One early exam, a midterm, and a final, none of which include the material covered on previous exams.
