Steven Marrone | HIST021 - Europe in the High Middle Ages | History2004-04-14

Review:
I thought Marrone was just okay. He is very interested in the subject matter, but the course is pretty much a survey that just goes over the readings. Class discussions were unproductive as Marrone talked the majority of the time. However, Marrone is helpful in office hours.

Workload:
One 5-page paper for midterm, two papers for the final. No classwork except about 100 pages per week reading.

Review:
I highly recommend this class if you want to have a professor who clearly organizes/outlines his lectures and sticks to them. His lecture style makes it so that you feel you're listening to a story than trying to remember a date/time/person/place for an exam; therefore, it's easier to remember and digest a lot of information. He is very passionate about the history he speaks of and has great enthusiasm in trying to get you to be as passionate as well. He's a genuinely nice guy, too. Always ready to help and answer questions, he's very easy to get in touch with and knows material very well.

Workload:
One 5-page paper for midterm grade. Class discussions once a week based on mainly primary sources. Two separate 5-page papers counting as final grade. Lecture three times a week for 50 minutes.
