Review:
I loved this professor and really enjoyed the class. Awesome visuals of historical footage, good lectures and lots of discussion on relevant issues like Rwanda, or war and international law that you would not imagine from the title. The best way to fulfill your Word Civ. I went to see her for bibliography and she lent me one of her own books, she goes out of her way, super helpful, always there, you do not expect so much kindness from someone so well published and knowledgeable. Not a stuck up professor.

Workload:
Reading helps follow the lectures, some are harder than others, lots of cool visuals, smashing historical visuals. If you do not want to discuss the readings she will not call on you randomly so you can get away with it but the class will be hard to follow. One take home mideterm, option of presentation or paper, while usually a waste of time some of the presentations by other students were amazing in this class. She is really strict about attendence when other students present.

Review:
This is an amazing course, professor McCabe is awesome. Some unbelievable historic footage of WWI and Russian revolution etc....follows her lectures and makes things even more lively. She is vivacious and lively, lectures brilliantly but always stopped to involve us, she never monologues like many profs I have had, always available and helpful and upbeat. I just loved her way of organizing the course thematically and escaping narrow national histories.

Workload:
There are some very good reading some that are a little theoretical on nationalism, movies on reserve, one movie, Egoyan's Calendar in class, and historical footage that made this course a joy. One take home midterm, oral presentation but I chose a paper as did most of the class. She leaves you the choice of your topic in a very vast course. Clear expectations, 15 page syllabus, no surprises ever.

Review:
I will never take another class with this professor and strongly advise others to stay away. I had a lot of expectations for this course but it has been very disappointing. Her syllabus is very disorganized and it definitely shows in the class. There is very little continuity in the class and we never really learn much about anything. The class meets twice a week and all we do for one of those classes is watch a movie. This class is an incredible waste of time.

Workload:
She assigns reading but we never come back to them and there is very little class discussion about what we have read. The mid-term and final are both easy because they are take home exams. There is also one oral presentation.

Review:
This professor rocks and I notice she has no reviews. She is a five star prof. I took this class about the Caucasus and Armenia after another class with her, don?t let the title fool you this course is very wide and teaches concepts and theory as well as facts, lots of interaction, she loves it if you volunteer to speak and is very encouraging. Prof McCabe is positive, enthusiastic and a very knowledgeable and inspiring lecturer.

Workload:
Not too heavy, like most history classes, but some difficult reading, she gives you constant handouts about the hard reading which breaks the difficulties down (Hobsbaum), midterm, an in class presentation or paper( she lets you chose). She will give you the option of a final if your midterm is not tops, but does not change grades except for extra work. She is very generous with her time and will help you.
