What a wonderful, wonderful professor! Which teacher would give you a take home midterm, treat you and your class to breakfast before Thanksgiving break, give you NO final, and then treat you with dinner at the end? Not too many. I'm very grateful that I took this class, not only because of Professor McCabe, but because it has given me a better outlook on the history of food. Honestly, if your not a big history buff, but want to take a fun class, this one is for you.
Workload:
Very light. Lots of reading for in class discussions, movies every Wednesday, take home midterm, and final paper on a topic of your choice. There is lots of freedom in this class.

Professor McCabe is a rare gem as brilliant as she is kind. She knows her material so well she lectures without notes takes questions anytime. Speaks at least 6 languages (or more I don't know) and knows exciting sources in all of them. She makes difficult material easy. Knowing the history of consumption will change your world view, a truly global course!
Workload:
High, but manageable if you read as you are supposed to, she will never put you on the spot. Advanced class, but the readings are great, especially those on the culture of food. Midterm, paper, lots of support writing the paper, took this as a senior before I graduated my worse semester and managed.
