Review:
I happened to stumble across Tuftsreviews.com when looking for some general information about the school that granted me two degrees some years back. When I read the reviews of Steven Marrone, I was troubled. These reviews do not do the man, or his art, justice.

Marrone is indeed, one of the best assets to the liberal arts curriculum at Tufts. And although his expertise is designated as European History, he is one of the few Professors at Tufts who goes above and beyond his field.

If you are lazy, don't take his classes. He does not assign a ridiculous amount of work, but he does require that you think about history in relation to one's own world. For those of you who are willing to think and challenge all that is around you, Steven Marrone will engage you in myriad ways.

Marrone not only educates students, he challenges what history means. He also invites all of his students to do the same.

I had Marrone in a seminar, not a survey course and he then became one of my three thesis advisors for a dual degree from Tufts/SMFA. (As it was so long ago I had to use Open Study as a field for this site.)

That seminar, GENDER, REASON and RELIGION, was the best investment I made at Tufts. It was one of the few places where the quiet folks were willing to speak out, and those of us that were -- eh, louder -- engaged with others that we normally would not engage with.

Prof. Marrone?s engagement of us all provided an experience that was unrivalled at a school whose P.R. bent leans toward the homogenous.

I thank him for that, as his teachings created a moral compass for my work as a documentary film-maker.

So go think.
