Tufts University: Jacqueline Carlon - History - Professor ratings, reviews and much more | JumboAccess
Review:
Prof. Carlon is one of the best teachers I've had at Tufts and after finishing this class I signed up for another Rome class of hers. She is very engaging and makes the history of Rome fun to experience. The class is also pretty open and she has available office hours. She presents the entire class on powerpoint so there are a lot of good visual aids, etc.
Workload:
There were three tests during the semester. There was a weekly homework ditto assignment based on supplementary reading, which was apart from the main textbook. These readings are from primary sources and ancient historians, etc., to try among other things to examine how the historical record can be distorted by the bias of the historian. Although I found that you didn't need to read every single assignment, I felt it was a good idea to do it anyway to get a better grasp of the culture of Rome (if it wasn't on the assignment, it probably won't be on the test, so don't make the mistake I did and try to memorize every blessed word we read!). Homework is flexible and the lowest grade is dropped, which helps when there's a big test in something else that week. One of the best classes I ever took.
