Tufts University: Beatrice Manz - History - Professor ratings, reviews and much more | JumboAccess
Review:
I really enjoyed the materials, but Manz is not a very good lecturer. She just went over basic information and chronology: stuff you can get straight from the readings. Also, she talks slowly and not in a very engaging manner.
Workload:
A moderate amount of readings: Bio of the Prophet, Oxford history of Islam, Ibn Battuta, and Makers of Contemporary Islam. Oh, and also a short course pack.
The semester begins with a short Arabic alphabet quiz and an essay map quiz. Just put time in to study.
There was a take-home midterm and a take-home final. Two essays for each. Straight forward.
There was also a book review. Some people was trouble, but the key is really just to follow her directions and include everything that she wants.
A lot of films were assigned. I didn't watch any and did fine.
