Tufts University: Anna Hardman - Economics - Professor ratings, reviews and much more | JumboAccess
Review: This has been one of my favorite classes at Tufts. Although Professor Hardman can seem a little crazy at times, she is quite excited about the field of urban economics. Her personality makes lectures interesting. and I feel like a learned a ton about a subject that is applicable to the real world.
Workload: There are 2 exams, 1 short paper (5 pages), and 1 major paper (25 pages). Although the research paper is a little overwhelming, it's not too hard to write because she has deadlines stretched out over the entire semester.

Review: This class was phenomenal, the professor's enthusiasm for the material is what made her one of the best instructors I've had at Tufts. She came prepared with handouts each day, would constantly encourage us to ask questions, and would go over material without us asking her to- but simply because she sensed that we weren't following. She holds the class outside on warm days, brings in chocolate to keep us smiling through the class, and is very engaging in her lectures. She constantly switches up the format of the class, with presentations, and group dialogue a little role play etc. so as to keep us interested. She set up office hours, but beyond that would sign us up to meet with her personally, so we were all granted some one on one time with her. I would suggest that particularly people who thought they didn't like economics take this class- it's that good!
Workload: The work load was varied, and we were assigned a lot of current event readings (articles etc.) which were excellent. Also chose a movie that dealt with migration and wrote a movie review, and worked on our own research projects. The good thing about this class is that it teaches you two very important skills at once, on the one hand is the obvious econ. on the other the papers we wrote where done with the help of a writing fellow, which means that our writing improved significantly throughout the course of the class. (And it wasn't that hard!) She's also a very fair grader...

Review: Dr. Hardman is extremely enthusiastic (sometimes too enthusiastic...it might be all the chocolate covered espresso beans she ate and constantly forced on us) about the material in the course. She encourages discussion on a very regular basis, and will accept alternative views readily. She is also extremely concerned about the progress of students. There is a major research paper, and she met with all of us at least twice to discuss it and to offer any advice or resources that she could find. We convinced her to change the midterm from in class to either in class or take home. She is extremely flexible.
Workload: The class is an applied econ course, so the workload consists of a lot of reading, about half of which are journal articles. Some of it is very interesting, some not. The information in the articles is all fair game on the mid term (there is an optional final which I don?t' think anyone in our class took). There is also a major research paper (20+ pages) which was a lot of work, but again, Hardman is always available to give you advice and resources, which helped a lot. It was not the fluffy class I thought it would be, but it was definitely worth taking.
