Tufts University: Margaret Toth - English - Professor ratings, reviews and much more | JumboAccess
Review:
Prof Toth has strong opinions and doesn't hesitate to make them known. It was an interesting class but be ready to be annoyed if you disagree with her. She often says that she doesn't grade based on your disagreement with her but it's curious that the only flaws in logic she points out are those which contradict hers. I left the class frustrated and without feeling like I learned anything. I warn you against her if you can see anything but one biased opinion.

Not bad. It wasn't an incredibly hard course.

Review:
Professor Toth is very young and her teaching reflects that - in a very good way. The films she selected for viewing were eclectic and expansive, ranging from popular Hollywood films to foreign and independent films to new wave cinema and demonstrate her openness to new ideas. Discussions, though occasionally stilted by lack of participation in a 7 person class, were often interesting and though-provoking, stimulated by her insights and comments. She is very reachable and encourages students to use her office hours. By having taken this class I have learned a whole new appreciation for film and I feel that my tastes have become much more refined.
Workload:
There are 5 major papers and the occasional short paper, and while it's actually quite a bit of writing, it doesn't seem like it because of the spacing between them and the time you're given to write them. She's a pretty tough grader, but gives you the opportunity to rewrite them and offers copious comments.
