Marta Paczynska | ENG002R - Love and Sexuality | English2005-11-30

Review:
Professor Paczynska was nice, helpful/straightforward and fair. The small class size made it a nice friendly environment. She loves making fun of herself, which got old, but made the mood of the class light and pleasant. I enjoyed the topic of the course, which heavily revolves around homosexuality and gender (including a lot of transgender-ism). I loved the class, but I can see how other people might not like it.

Workload:
Three six page essays, one 8-10 page research paper and a 4 page creative writing final paper. Two full books and some articles to read. It felt like lots of work/reading at times but was generally pretty manageable and INTERESTING. She drops the lowest grade if you have perfect attendance and lets you rewrite two of your essays (if you have time to). Not too hard to do well if you do the work.

Marta Paczynska | ENG001 - EXPOSITORY WRITING | English2005-01-25

Review:
This woman was awful! English was one of my favorite subjects...then I entered her "classroom". Her assignments could possibly have the potential of being interesting if she was at all interested in one's unique writing style or alternate views. Don't get me wrong, I'm not out for revenge. I got an A in the class, but I got that A by selling my soul. Throw interesting out the window and stick to the generic layout she gives you...that is if you can understand it.

Workload:
Not a lot of reading...interesting little short stories you've probably already read at one point in your life. There were a lot of papers--maybe one every week. The revision sessions with your peers in class are pretty pointless and used as a way to kill time.

Marta Paczynska | ENG002H - Gay & Lesbian Perspectives | English2004-04-14

Review:
Very helpful professor, but she isn't very tolerant of alternative views. She's very liberal and it feels like sometimes, she expects her students to take on her views. If you oppose, you better have a VERY good reason or defense. Our class was based a lot on discussions about feminism and the gay and lesbian theory. I did learn a lot though, since I didn't really learn much about these subjects in high school.

Workload:
Insane amount of reading? No, because I hardly read the assigned reading. Assignments were pretty straightforward and practically every essay was about gender.
