Tufts University: ENG052 - GEN VIEW OF ENG LIT - English - Professor ratings, reviews and much more | JumboAccessReview:
The professor was fairly enthusiastic. She was very nice and a little scatterbrained. The class is pretty fast-paced because it covers such an extensive time period. The optional writing workshop is really good because you get extra help and extra time on papers.
Workload:
The reading load is pretty intense. Be prepared to read A LOT of poetry rather than novels.

Professor Hofkosh definitely knows her stuff, and this is definitely apparent throughout her thorough lectures. Dare I say, at times, her enthusiasm and intelligence is at times so great that you actually become EXCITED to read Robert Browning -- or maybe that's just me. Unfortunately the class itself (English 52) covers an enormous time period, making certain lectures less than satisfying. Nevertheless, this is nature of the course -- a dab here and a dab there -- and Hofkosh does the best she can with an overwhelming amount of material. Finally, you WILL benefit from the comments she writes on papers. Just like her reading of Victorian poetry, Hofkosh reads papers thoroughly and critically. Be prepared for paper grades on the low side.
Workload:
Reasonable/low amount of reading (fairly unbalanced -- one week a novel, another week two poems), 1 paper, 2 exams, and you have to memorize and recite a poem to the class (not as daunting as it sounds). There are also periodic reading responses assigned.

Hofkosh is definitely encouraging of class involvement, she's sweet, and she's enthusiastic. However, she barely references the text during class, tends to get too bs-y, and can spend way too long discussing one topic.
Workload:
Generally easy... 1 paper, 2 tests. Although it's hard to know what she's looking for sometimes.
