Tufts University: Mauricio Gutierrez - Mathematics - Professor ratings, reviews and much more | JumboAccess
Review:
Calc II is a tough course, irregardless of what professor you have. Know this before enrolling or it will eat you alive. As for Guiterrez, be prepared to do a lot of independent learning/studying because he rushes through the material in lecture without thoroughly explaining a thing. When teaching a new concept (most are hard), he simply rushes through an example or two using his internalized rationale and leaves students bewildered and confused. Having a different professor will do you well in this course, because I sat in another calc II class once and the prof. explained what she was teaching amazingly. Too bad I don't know her name...
Workload:
Homework is assigned for each lecture. It provides good practice for what you (supposedly) learned during that day's lecture. However, with Guitierrez I couldn't understand a thing he was "teaching" so I was unable to do most of the homework. This turned out ok for me because I crammed like mad before the exams and did alright, and the homework only counts as extra bonus points in the end so not doing it didn't hurt my grade. But I don't advise skipping out on homework and then cramming to learn it all, I only did this because I never learned anything from Guitierrez.
