Tufts University: Zbigniew Nitecki - Mathematics - Professor ratings, reviews and much more | JumboAccess
Review: This course was a lot of fun and incredibly interesting for someone interested in abstract mathematics. Prof. Nitecki uses the course to build a network of ideas, by proving the major theorems of multi-variate calculus. There is plenty of problem solving as well, but this is mainly a venue to demonstrate understanding of the concepts. Most of the lectures consisted of trying (but not always succeeding!) in proving the theorems in the book.
Prof. Nitecki is very interested in his students' progress, and is easily accessible outside of class. I stayed after class a number of times to go over a concept that went over my head, which happened fairly often but usually worked out in the end. I highly recommend this course to anyone contemplating a major in mathematics or with an interest in abstract math.
Workload: The workload for this class was HEAVY. The class meets three times a week, for 1:15 each time. Additionally, there are nightly assignments that frequently take 2 hours. However, if you can put the time in, it is a highly rewarding and interesting experience. I especially encourage you to work with other members of the class on homework assignments.
Lastly, the textbook that was used in 2006 was not the best at explaining concepts, so the lectures are very important and look to Nitecki for help.

Review: Math 17 was difficult, yet highly rewarding. The proofs covered in class were often challenging, as were the exams. However, homework was half the course grade. Additionally, extra credit challenge problems eased the grading tension. Prof. Nitecki is one of the most accessible teachers I've had. I met with him several times outside of class, rarely during his actual office hours. He is also extremely knowledgeable and is writing the textbook used in the class.
Workload: There were nightly assignments, which usually took about an hour or two to complete. There were also optional challenge problems (for extra credit) which ranged in difficulty. Prof. Nitecki was very understanding of the workload and frequently extended the due dates if the entire class struggled.
