Tufts University: Mary Glaser - Mathematics - Professor ratings, reviews and much more | JumboAccess
Mary Glaser | MATH012 - Calculus II | Mathematics2007-01-22

Review:
Mary Glaser is the best math teacher I've ever had. That might not be saying much, since I've had some rotten math teachers in the past, but she was smart, funny, and incredibly energetic. She knows the material so well, that she was totally comfortable having students correct her if she made any mistakes on the board. She made a real effort to encourage participation and sincerely cares about students' understanding of the material. From her Sponge Bob socks to her stories about playing in a band to her extensive knowledge of methods of integration, Glaser really made the 50 minute periods fly by.

Workload:
There is homework every night, but it's certainly manageable if you keep up. Tests are tricky but if you go through the old tests posted online, it's much easier to do well.

Mary Glaser | MATH012 - Calculus II | Mathematics2006-05-15

Review:
Enthusastic and odd. Mary Glaser was a great teacher. She moves quickly though she is readily available for office hours. Course material wasn't too tough. I'd take another class with her.

Workload:
Same as any other math class.

Mary Glaser | MATH012 - Calculus II | Mathematics2006-01-13

Review:
Prof. Glaser is an amazing math teacher. She explains things very clearly in class, and will explain them in multiple ways so that everyone understands. She also gives very clear handouts summarizing important information so you can concentrate on understanding the material rather than taking notes. She even brings props to class to help with difficult concepts! She has extra office hours before tests, which are very helpful. All in all, I found this class enjoyable, because of Prof. Glaser's fun attitude and straightforward teaching style.

Workload:
Same as any math class - homework due every class, but it only counts for extra credit in your final grade. Do the homework, though, because it's the only chance you get to practice the problems before the test. Study for the tests and go to office hours and you'll be fine.

Mary Glaser | MATH011 - Calculus I | Mathematics2005-11-29

Review:
Very nice, friendly, open. A bit scatter brained. Makes frequent mistakes on the chalk board.

Workload:
Same as any other math class. H/w assignments, 3 tests, 1 final.

Mary Glaser | MATH011 - Calculus I | Mathematics2005-11-12

Review:
Glaser is EASILY one of the quirkiest people you will ever meet. One of my personal favorite teachers because of her very straightforward teaching style, in addition to her general enthusiasm with which she teaches her class. Her sense of humor is great and keeps the class interesting.

Workload:
Homework due every class. Very straightforward, odd numbered problems are in solutions manual. Glaser goes over even questions in class.

Mary Glaser | MATH012 - Calculus II | Mathematics2005-08-09

Review:
Excellent professor - really liked her classes, she was funny and great at explaining everything. She covers the material very well and prepares you well for the tests. Someone recommended her for Math 11 my freshman year and I ended up choosing her for Math 12 and then once again for Math 22 because she was great!

Mary Glaser | MATH022 - Discrete Math | Mathematics2005-07-22

Review:
Awesome professor, taught tough material very clearly. Also scores points because she is a sports fan, although she had some sort of internal conflict between the Red Sox and Yankees. Overall a great professor and a decent class.

Mary Glaser | MATH012 - Calculus II | Mathematics2005-04-12

Review:
Professor Glaser was one of the best teachers I've had a Tufts. She loves what she teaches, is entertaining and exciting, and is very clear when she lectures. I'm not a math person but I loved this course. She has office hours and gives out review handouts for class. I was very satisfied with my experience in her class.

Workload:
Workload was very manageable with math problems due every class. Plan to do some extra studying before tests in order to do well. Some of the material is difficult but she will help you if you need it.

Mary Glaser | MATH006 - Finite Math | Mathematics2005-03-15

Review:
Mary Glaser is the best. She is so energetic, and infuses her lectures with pop-culture and sports references, not to mention colored chalk and other childish props. It's much appreciated early in the morning. If you have to fulfill a math requirement, there is NO WAY i would sign up with anyone other than her--honestly, best decision, even though I couldn't take a class I wanted to take because it conflicted. She makes the subject manageable and palatable. And I hate math.

Workload:
Very acceptable amount of work. Just need to devote a day to prepare for the tests and you should be fine.

Glaser's an amazing prof., even for classes meant for the less mathematically inclined, like Math 6.

Assignments were reasonable and relevant.

Mary Glaser | MATH022 - Discrete Math | Mathematics2004-07-12

Review:
I really enjoyed math 22 (Discrete Math) with Prof. Glaser. She was energetic and engaging and obviously liked the course material a lot. She was always willing to help review a homework problem or push back a due date if the material was hard to understand.

Workload:
Like any normal math class- HW due every class, but not required; though, keeping on top of all the HW can really help you prepare for the tests, as a lot of the exam problems were very similar to HW problems. (HW points also add to your overall grade.)

Mary Glaser | MATH012 - Calculus II | Mathematics2004-07-11

Review:
Professor Glaser was a good professor when it came to the classroom, but not particularly concerned with each individual student's progress or problems. This is the standard for the math department here at Tufts.

Workload:
The workload was as large as you want it to be--homeworks are not for credit. To get a good grade, though, the class requires a lot of work.

Homeworks do count towards extra points in the end.

Mary Glaser | MATH022 - Discrete Math | Mathematics2004-04-08

Review:
It is simple enough if you read the book and do the homework, but like every math class there is a problem set due every class meeting. Professor Glaser sails through the semester with ease, and at times makes a complicated subject feel like elementary school math. If you're an engineer trying to fill that math/science fundamental, Math 22 with Glaser is a great choice.

This is one of those classes that you either sail through comfortable or really struggle in.

Workload:
HW due every class. Some of the homeworks can take a couple of hours to do.

Mary Glaser | MATH046 - Linear Algebra | Mathematics2004-04-08

Review:
Linear Algebra is not a difficult subject, but the tests can be confusing. Fortunately, Professor Glaser is far and away one of the most enthusiastic and intelligent teachers Tufts has to offer. Her lecturing style seems at times more like a standup comic's than a math professor's. No doubt her years as a drummer for a rock band feeds her classroom presence. Glaser does a good job of preparing her students for the tests and is frequently available for additional help. This class is a good choice for math majors, as well as other engineers. The material is especially applicable for computer scientists.

Workload:
Regular math class load.
